About Me

Adriana Suarez

Hi! Welcome to my bio!

I grew up in Kansas City, Kansas always pursuing new hobbies and crafts since I was a teenager. I eventually found myself rummaging through my parents’ craft closet to find my dad’s jewelry beads and tools. Ever since then, I haven’t stopped creating new pieces turning my small hobby into an entrepreneurship journey.

Xotu began in 2019. Self taught artist, Adriana wanted to educate herself to incorporate teachings of art and traditional culture in her knowledge of beadwork. Finding a way to ensure she remained rooted with traditional skills and knowledge of her Dad’s Mexican origin. She followed in his footsteps as he once sold his artwork in Mexican markets. This brand was born and became part of her passion for the arts.

Near the end of 2021, Adriana pursued a goal to study abroad. Used the funds from Xotu, to support herself financially during her studies abroad. Upon returning she found herself disconnected from her culture and time flew by. She felt disconnected from her passions and asked herself why stop doing what you love? Eventually finding herself back to the drawing board with Xotu in the Entrepreneurship Scholars program at UMKC.

Xotu (a word in the Huichol language that translated to flower) is the shop name. During the pandemic Adriana became inspired by the beading pattern of the Huichol and began expanding outside of traditional beaded loom bracelets onto freehand work with glass seed beads inspired by the motifs of nature from sunsets to flowers. As Xotu’s identity continued to transform and grow, the flowers always remained! Our shop will have many items curated and created incorporating glass seed beads.

You are supporting locally owned, women owned, marginally owned… etc. This is a friendly reminder to those that share our product and business that Adriana, the main Artist, is a Mexican American Artist.

You are seen and appreciated beyond words. From this day forward each piece created, unless otherwise stated, is authentically Adriana’s and made with the intent to create works of meaning, value, and connection with love and passion within her designs.

Welcome and thank you for stopping by.
